What Is the Electronic Titling Fee?
The Electronic Titling Fee is a charge associated with the electronic submission of vehicle title and registration documents to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and the County Clerk of Courts through Ohio’s electronic titling system. This fee covers the cost of electronically processing and transmitting title applications, lien filings, and related ownership transfer documents on behalf of the vehicle purchaser.

Ohio dealers participating in the electronic titling program are authorized to collect an electronic titling service fee. This fee is separate from standard state and county titling fees collected by the Ohio BMV and County Clerk of Courts, and is disclosed on the buyer’s order as a separate line item.
Ohio Law & Program Authorization
Ohio law authorizes the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to establish and operate an electronic title system for the processing of motor vehicle titles. Licensed dealers participating in this system are authorized to submit title transactions electronically and may collect a service fee from the purchaser to offset the costs associated with electronic transmission and processing. This system is administered by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) in cooperation with the County Clerks of Courts.

- For financed purchases, the lender’s lien information is simultaneously recorded on the electronic title record.
- The Ohio BMV and County Clerk of Courts process the electronic submission and issue the official Ohio Certificate of Title.
- The title is delivered to the lienholder (for financed vehicles) or mailed directly to the purchaser (for cash transactions) typically within 4–6 weeks.
Difference Between the Electronic Titling Fee and State Title Fees
